Idaho Declares War on Veterans, Patients, and Voter Rights in Its Anti-Weed Crusade

Filed Under: Reefer Madness, Government Overreach

Idaho lawmakers have made it clear: they don’t give a fuck about veterans, cancer patients, or anyone suffering from chronic pain. Instead, they’re doubling down on a twisted moral crusade, not just against marijuana, but against the rights of Idaho’s own citizens to make decisions for themselves.

On March 5, the Idaho House passed House Joint Resolution 4 (HJR 4), a legislative power grab that would amend the state constitution to strip voters of the ability to legalize cannabis—or any other currently illegal substance—through ballot initiatives. In plain English: they want to make sure Idahoans never get the chance to legalize medical marijuana, no matter how much public support exists.

It’s a deliberate slap in the face to veterans, patients with serious medical conditions, and the thousands of Idahoans already consuming cannabis—many of whom are crossing state lines weekly to get what their own government refuses to acknowledge.

Idaho’s “Virtue and Sobriety” Bullshit

Republican Rep. Bruce Skaug (R-Nampa), the mastermind behind this nonsense, claims that Idaho must remain on the “offense” against marijuana. Why? Because, as he smugly pointed out during the March 5 floor debate, the Idaho Constitution states that “the first concern of all good government is the virtue and sobriety of the people.”

🔥 Virtue and sobriety? Tell that to the thousands of Idahoans who medicate with opioids, slam beers at the local bar, or pop Xanax like candy.

⚠️ Alcohol is fully legal in Idaho, despite the CDC reporting 178,000 alcohol-related deaths per year. Meanwhile, the DEA has confirmed that cannabis has caused exactly zero overdose deaths.

🚨 But Idaho lawmakers don’t give a shit about facts. Instead, they’re more concerned with preventing the people who voted them into office from having any say in how cannabis is regulated.

Idaho Lawmakers To Veterans “Go Fuck Yourself”

Let’s talk about the people Idaho lawmakers are screwing over most: veterans.

The American Legion—a conservative, veteran-led organization—has been pushing for medical marijuana access for years, recognizing its effectiveness in treating PTSD, chronic pain, and opioid dependency.

💀 Instead of listening to those who actually fought for this country, Idaho lawmakers would rather see them suffer.

👉 The message is clear: Take your VA-prescribed opioids, drink your whiskey, but don’t even think about using a plant that might actually help you.

Idaho Loves Big Pharma and Booze but Hates a Plant

The hypocrisy here is staggering. If Idaho lawmakers were actually concerned about public health, they’d be taking on Big Pharma, which has flooded America with opioids, killing over 100,000 people last year alone.

💰 But they’re not. They’re more than happy to let pharmaceutical companies rake in billions while people get hooked on prescription drugs. Meanwhile, a plant that could help reduce opioid dependency, alleviate pain, and treat PTSD is treated like public enemy number one.

🍾 And let’s not forget about alcohol. Idaho’s liquor stores are state-run, meaning the government makes bank off booze sales. DUI-related deaths? Alcohol poisoning? Domestic violence fueled by drinking? Doesn’t matter—as long as the state gets its cut.

Stripping Voter Rights: The Real Endgame

This isn’t just about weed. It’s about Idaho lawmakers taking power away from the people.

🚧 Under current state law, Idahoans already have to jump through ridiculous hoops to get a citizen-led initiative on the ballot. It takes thousands of volunteers, more than 60,000 signatures, and months of work.

❌ But if HJR 4 passes in the Senate, it won’t matter how many people want legal cannabis—only the legislature will have the power to decide.

🤑 And let’s be real: this legislature will never legalize weed. They’d rather let Idahoans suffer while they rake in donations from pharmaceutical companies, booze distributors, and the private prison industry that profits from cannabis-related arrests.

Idahoans Are Fighting Back

Despite this bullshit, the fight isn’t over. Kind Idaho, a nonprofit organization, is currently pushing a 2026 ballot initiative to decriminalize cannabis and allow adults to possess up to one ounce and grow up to 12 plants at home.

📣 It’s an uphill battle. Idaho lawmakers have tried and failed to crush every attempt to get a cannabis measure on the ballot. But they can’t stop the reality that tens of thousands of Idahoans are already using cannabis, whether legally in other states or illegally in their own homes.

Idaho’s War on Weed is a War on Its Own People

Idaho lawmakers are making it clear: they’d rather protect outdated drug war policies, corporate interests, and their own political power than listen to the people they claim to represent.

⚖️ They’re waging war on veterans, medical patients, and everyday Idahoans, all while hiding behind fake morality and outdated rhetoric.

The question is: will Idahoans let them get away with it?
