Stand Up and Vote: Today’s the Day We Keep Freedom in Our Hands

There are days to light up and kick back, but today isn’t one of them. It’s November 5th, 2024—a Tuesday to put the spliff down, get out the door, and take back the power from those who think they can rule by fear, by force, by stripping away rights they don’t have the right to touch.

This isn’t just another election; it’s a line in the sand. Today, we’re voting for a future where basic freedoms aren’t up for debate, where women’s right to make decisions about their bodies isn’t some chip in a poker game. It’s a shot at keeping the circus—complete with that bloated, orange demagogue who thinks he’s above the law—from turning our country into a horror show of hypocrisy, stripping freedoms while preaching about “family values.”

In states from Florida to North Dakota, the vote isn’t just about who sits in the Oval Office—it’s about the personal freedom to decide. In Florida, for example, Amendment 3 is on the ballot, a chance to bring legal recreational cannabis to the state and generate upwards of $195 million in annual tax revenue. Let’s be honest, that kind of cash could do a lot more good in the state’s schools and roads than wasted on criminalizing a plant. This isn’t just about weed; it’s a crack in the armor of outdated laws, an opening for people to take back control.

But the stakes today go even deeper. In recent years, women’s rights have been tossed on the chopping block, and the fight for reproductive freedom has been dragged through the mud by states passing laws straight out of some dystopian playbook. Imagine Hunter S. Thompson’s fury at this mess—he’d have a field day calling out those holier-than-thou politicians spewing freedom out of one side of their mouths while passing laws to keep women’s rights chained up. It’s “freedom for me, but not for thee” all over again.

Today, we vote not just for the right to make choices, but for the right to keep the government out of our homes, out of our bodies, and out of the doctor’s office. That’s why we’re backing Kamala Harris. She’s not perfect, but she’s a damn sight better than the alternative: a self-declared savior with a rap sheet that’s longer than a bad punchline. Harris stands for cannabis reform, for personal choice, for the freedom to decide without a government babysitter looming over every decision.

Voting isn’t just about picking a leader today—it’s about standing for a future that doesn’t look like a parody of freedom. It’s about backing policies that let people live their lives without interference, that respect women’s autonomy, and that value individual choice over state control.

“Freedom is something that dies unless it’s used,” Thompson once said. And here we are, on a day that will be a test of whether we’ve got the guts to stand up for the freedom we talk about or let it slip away in silence. Because if we don’t show up if we don’t cast that ballot, we’re rolling out the red carpet for anyone who’d rather keep us quiet, compliant, and controlled.

So grab your friends, make a plan, and get to the polls together. Make it loud. Because when you get right down to it, freedom’s not some privilege—it’s a right worth fighting for.
