Stash Smarts: How to Avoid a 100-Pound Mistake

Mugshot of Jeremy Madix/Orange County Sheriff’s Department

Jeremy Madix, brother of Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix, just gave us all a masterclass in what not to do. Trying to smuggle 100 pounds of cannabis through an airport? Yeah, that’s a hard pass.

It all went down in February 2024 at Orlando International Airport when Jeremy and his buddy Jonah Ahad decided to test their luck with three suitcases stuffed full of weed. Spoiler alert: it didn’t go well. U.S. Customs agents, doing what they do best, quickly discovered the massive stash and charged the duo with trafficking—an offense that comes with serious consequences, including prison time.

Now, look, we’re not here to lecture seasoned cannabis connoisseurs. Most of us know better than to pull a stunt like this. But it’s worth remembering a few simple rules to keep your cannabis habits smart and legal, especially if you’re planning to travel.

1. Keep Your Stash Local

  • Don’t Risk It: Even if you’re flying from one weed-friendly state to another, crossing state lines with cannabis is still a federal no-no. Stick to enjoying your stash at home or in legal, local settings.

2. Know the Local Laws

  • Legal Doesn’t Mean Universal: Just because you’re cool with cannabis at home doesn’t mean the same rules apply everywhere. Always check the local laws before you travel and leave your stash behind if there’s any doubt.

3. Don’t Overcomplicate It

  • Less is More: We’re not saying don’t enjoy cannabis—just don’t be reckless. Whether you’re at home or on vacation, keep things low-key and legal. No one needs to haul 100 pounds of anything through airport security.

Jeremy’s ill-fated trip is a reminder that while cannabis culture has come a long way, the rules are still the rules. So, enjoy your cannabis, but play it smart. Let’s keep the good times rolling without unnecessary drama.
