La Brea Tar Pits Trip Turns into High Drama: Students Hospitalized for Edible Overindulgence

In what can only be described as the most memorable—and utterly ridiculous—field trip to the La Brea Tar Pits, eight high school students managed to land themselves in the hospital after munching on cannabis edibles. Talk about a trip!

The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that a security officer stumbled upon the dazed and confused teens, who were exhibiting signs of being “acutely ill.” Naturally, the officer called 911, because who wouldn’t be concerned about a bunch of high schoolers having an unexpectedly high time at a historical site?

When paramedics arrived on Wilshire Boulevard, they found that the students had an “altered level of consciousness.” In layman’s terms, they were really, really stoned. The best part? Despite the drama, the kids are in fair condition and expected to recover—because no one has ever died from cannabis. No duh.

La Brea Tar Pits staff quickly assessed the situation and sought medical aid, as they shared in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter): “We extend our care and concern to the students and their families and wish them a healthy recovery.” A heartwarming message, sure, but perhaps a tad over the top for a bunch of teenagers who just overdid it on some edibles.

Curiously, the high school in question remains unidentified, but the Los Angeles Unified School District confirmed these are not their students. So, somewhere out there, a principal is breathing a sigh of relief.

The incident is still under investigation, which presumably means someone’s going to get a stern talking-to about the perils of edibles and public outings. But let’s be real: The real lesson here? Maybe just save the snacks for after school next time.

Stay tuned for more updates on this absurd cannabis caper, as we continue to follow the story that proves once again: teenagers and edibles are a hilariously bad mix.
