In the heart of Colombia, a tale of intrigue unfolds, featuring an unlikely protagonist—a 73-year-old American man dubbed “Cannabis Jimmy.” His entrepreneurial spirit led him to create a unique experience: $30 “cannabis tours” from the comfort of his own home in Sabaneta, just south of Medellín. These tours weren’t just a walk in the park; they were an invitation into the world of cannabis cultivation, promised through flyers and social media buzz.

Cannabis Jimmy’s venture attracted groups of 2-8 curious souls, eager to delve into the lifecycle of cannabis—planting, caring, harvesting, and maintaining. These 2-3 hour journeys promised not just knowledge, but also “free samples,” making the experience a tangible one. Beyond education, Jimmy offered his guests marijuana at $20 a gram, turning his home into a pit stop for those riding the high wave of cannabis tourism.

The Colombian national police, however, weren’t fans of Jimmy’s innovative tourism. During a raid, they confiscated 1,380 grams of marijuana, a blow to Cannabis Jimmy’s operations but hardly a dent in Colombia’s long-standing battle against drug trafficking. This country, known as the world’s largest exporter of cocaine, faces an ongoing struggle with narcotics, highlighted by recent intercepts of significant drug hauls.

Cannabis Jimmy’s story is a snapshot of the global dialogue on cannabis, bridging the gap between traditional perceptions and the burgeoning cannabis tourism industry. His arrest raises questions about the shifting sands of legality and morality in a country fighting to redefine its relationship with drugs.

As for Cannabis Jimmy, his tours may have grounded to a halt, but the legend of his cannabis tours continues to spark conversations about the possibilities and perils of cannabis entrepreneurship in the face of legal scrutiny.
